To be able to achieve the perfect look, the right foundation is considered to be the most important component. Hours of efforts and thousands of rupees invested in buying all sorts of cosmetics would go down the drain if you don’t use the foundation which is best suited for your skin type and complexion. Needless to say, most of us often fail in acquiring the perfect foundation and often show up caked in makeup, looking completely ridiculous on certain important occasions. Hence, the following steps must be taken into account when you set off to your make up shopping spree!
1. Know your skin type
Before you pick the formula, it is essential to know whether your skin is oily, dry or combination. If you have an oily skin go for a water-based foundation and search for words like “water” or “aqua” where the ingredients are stated.
On the contrary, if you have a dry skin you could use a moisturizing foundation with words like “hydrating” or “moisture-rich” identified on the bottle. For combination skin, cream to powder bases could work well!
2. Consider if you need a light or medium coverage
If you have an even toned skin and only want to invest in a foundation to smoothen a few rough edges here and there, you may consider a light coverage foundation. For women who have lots of blemishes and really uneven skin must always use medium to high coverage, depending on their skin type.
3. Don’t wear makeup when you go to shop for some
When you go to buy a foundation, always show up with a squeaky clean face so as to buy the product which shows the perfect finish. Going to buy make up when you are already wearing tons of it is never a good idea!
4. Know your skin tone
Contrary to popular belief, testing your foundation on the back up of your palm or your inner arm never gives the best results. Always try a bit of foundation on your jaw line or apply a few strokes on your cheek, rub smooth and then test it in sunlight to see if it blends in with your complexion perfectly.
5. Determine the undertone of your skin
Is your undertone pink, yellow, brown or peach? Always know which shade is your undertone and buy a foundation accordingly.
6. Choose your shade by matching the color to your jaw line.
Since it’s between your face and neck (the two places that the foundation should match), it’s your best bet. If the shades of your face & neck are slightly different, attempt to find one that’s in between.
7. Once you’ve bought the foundation, take it home and try it out. If you don’t like it you can return it. If you’re buying from a drugstore, purchase from one with a liberal return policy. Never stick to the product which doesn’t compliment you.
All these pointers will certainly help you choose the perfect foundation!
